Who Is The True Baby Boomer Generation? [VIDEO]

April 28th, 2008
[VIDEO] Demographic Popularizers believe that the 18 year Baby Boom Generation period may actually comprise not one, but two very different generations.
A Baby Boomer is someone who was born between the years 1946 and 1964 - now between the ages of 42 and 60. This 18-year span represents the biggest population boom in US history. [VIDEO INCLUDED]

But some believe that this 18 year Baby Boom period may actually comprise not one, but two very different generations.

The early Baby Boomers (also known as True Baby Boomers), born between 1946 and 1955, are defined by the unique social and cultural factors surrounding the United States involvement in the Vietnam War as well as the ready availability of reliable birth control - the "Protesters" and the "Hippies".

The late mambers of the Baby Boomer Generation (also known as Shadow Baby Boomers), were born between 1956 and 1964, are those who did not experience the 1960s with its military draft and do not share the same social and cultural circumstances as did the others.

Both early and late Baby Boomers unquestionably make up the post World War II population boom, but demographic popularizers generally base a true generation on those with similar economic, social and/or cultural factors that they have shared. For this reason, the True Baby Boomers are generally considered to be those individuals that were born between 1946 and 1955.

Fast forward a half of a century - we True Baby Boomers are all grown up, in our 50's with the eldest of us now approaching our 60's. Yes, America's largest and most wealthy demographic segment is growing older. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 69 million people are between the ages of 50 to 59. Every seven seconds, another Baby Boomer turns 50. That equates to 12,000 people a day, or nearly 4.5 million people per year. America’s largest and most wealthy demographic segment, Baby Boomer's, is growing old.

As a True Baby Boomer myself, I'm empowered by the fact that we have become the single largest economic group in the United States today. We are well educated and increasingly well preserved. Our social, cultural and economic impact on our country has been unprecedented in its history. We can afford spending money on life's little luxuries. Don't be surprised to see Baby Boomer's hop on their motorcycles to take a road trip or find us spending an evening in front of their 50 inch TV home theater system or booking a trip to the Bahamas.

There is no doubt that Baby Boomers are at the early stages of what promises to be a long-term and lucrative love affair with life. We aren't simply writing a new chapter of their lives, we're writing a brand new book.
