I Traded My Business For A Guitar To Rock The Boomers

February 16th, 2008
For the past 30 years, I’ve been focused on running my advertising business, and then I decided to change my life. I reunited our 60’s rock ‘n roll band.

For the past 30 years, I’ve been focused on running my advertising business, and then I decided to change my life.  I reunited our 60’s rock ‘n roll band.

It started over 40 years ago
During the sixties, I was the singer in a rock ‘n roll band known as The Invictas.  We had fan clubs, police escorts, and a hit song and dance entitled The Hump.  We wore knee-high riding boots and fur vests, and traveled in a black 1955 Cadillac hearse.  Our record The Hump, made the Top 100 in the US, was on the charts from Buffalo to Miami, and was banned in Boston.

It was a Blue’s Brother’s Moment
A few years ago I was visiting Dave Hickey, the original drummer in the band and we went to a blues club for some drinks.  The band playing at the club invited us onstage to join them in a song.  After one song the crowd started yelling for more!  I was hooked, and that was my “My Blues Brother’s Moment.”

I told Dave we had to get the band back together.  Dave agreed, but never thought it would happen.  Three months later we were getting ready to play in the Upstate NY area.  We recently completed our third summer of playing.

Now it’s a book, a song, a web site, and possibly a TV show

• Since reuniting the band, we’ve played for thousands of baby boomers, appeared with the Beach Boys, been on the Today Show, and been featured in newspapers across the US.
• I wrote a book entitled Rock Till Ya Drop.  The book tells the story of the band and is designed to inspire boomers to follow their passion.  We also recorded a song with the same title.
• Had a Web site designed that offers over fifty ideas for having fun (www.rocktillyadrop.com).
• Next I’m working on a reality TV show that will rock the boomers.

Rock Till Ya Drop is My New Attitude

1. It’s a philosophy says that life is short and you should have fun while you can enjoy it.

2. I enjoy entertaining people, seeing them dance and have fun.

3. It’s physically demanding.  When I sing with the band, I run all over the stage, and go out to dance with the crowd.  I had to get in shape.

4. Yes you can recapture some of your youth.  I never thought I would play in a band again, or be writing and recording songs.  But I’ve done it.

5. Rock Till Ya Drop is about getting older but feeling younger.  This makes me feel like I’m a kid again.

While my passion is playing rock ‘n roll and entertaining baby boomers, your passion might be traveling, collecting classic cars, dancing or riding your motorcycle.  Whatever makes you happy, go for it, have fun and keep on rocking.
