New Book Urges Baby Boomers To Step Up

April 2nd, 2008
[BOOK] 10,000 Days: A Call To Arms For The Baby Boom Generation - There is a restlessness in the Baby Boomer generation. A feeling something isn’t finished. Perhaps an undercurrent of disappointment.

There is a restlessness in the Baby Boomer generation. A feeling something isn’t finished. Perhaps an undercurrent of disappointment.

Author David Mills has figured out what’s wrong and he’s offering up a cure in his new book, “10,000 Days: A Call to Arms for the Baby Boom Generation.”

The veteran journalist believes Baby Boomers lost their way after the protests, uprising and changes of the 1960s. As they became adults, the post-World War Two generation ventured into the business world, raised families, accumulated wealth and discovered they liked material things.

“That was all well and good, but was it good enough?,” Mills writes. “Was it worthy of a generation that proclaimed it would change the world? Those are the thoughts percolating in the back of many minds now that the 21st century is under way.”

In his book, Mills calls on his generation to take up the reins again as the movers and shakers of society. He urges them to make the next 10,000 days the best years of the Baby Boom generation.

“Many of us now have the time and money to ponder. The luxury once again of thinking lofty thoughts about something other than ourselves and our bank accounts,” Mills writes. “The question begs. Is it time for Baby Boomers to step back into the fray? Recapture some of the idealism and activism from our glory days? Make fundamental changes in society like we once did? Like we promised we would. The answer for a growing number of Baby Boomers is ‘yes.’”

In “10,000 Days,” Mills takes Baby Boomers on a journey. He tells them how we got to this point in our history and what we can do to make the world a better place for the generations behind us.

Mills interviewed dozens of Baby Boomers for their perspective on the past, present and future. He touches on how the Baby Boom generation can lead society through example and through action.

“10,000 Days” is a must read for Baby Boomers as they approach their retirement years. The message is clear and it is vital for our society.

“Our final chapter has not been written. What will our legacy be?,” Mills writes. “What we did when we were young. Or what we did when we were old.”

“10,000 Days” is now available on amazon.com. Mills used Amazon’s self-publishing site, “CreateSpace,” to bring his book to print.
